Quick, Bäckmann, Quick Architekten

Late 1988, after one year of studies at Berlin Technical University, I felt the need for some practical experience to complement the rather academic curriculum. QBQ had just opened a small office near the campus, and (attracted by some of their work seen in a local exhibition) I dropped in to apply for an internship. The office had no employees at the time, but grew considerably over the following years. I worked part-time there for all of my studies and after, until the sudden death of Klaus Quick in 2004. Helped with numerous competitions and a variety of projects. Below are two of the last ones I have been involved in.

ZOB Solingen (2002-04)

Design for a roofing structure for a central bus station. Did the initial geometric development of the structure and some visualization. Probably built.

Keibelstraße (2003)

Design study for a mixed office/residential complex on a site next to Berlin Alexanderplatz. Commissioned by a bank that got hold of the property through the bankruptcy of the investor, the study was mainly an exploration of the limits imposed by the then in place building code.
